Road safety: Andromeda, the intelligent safety barrier
Safer roads
A
revolutionary safety barrier that signals the danger in advance, and
due to its shape it is particularly safe for motorcyclists in the
event of an impact. It is called Andromeda and has been studied
by SMA Road Safety, a company from Marcianise (CE) that operates in
the field of passive road safety through the design and construction
of impact attenuators, road barriers and monitoring devices; his
most important interventions include the Eurasia Tunnel in Istanbul,
the fourth longest bridge in the world in Kuwait, the redevelopment
of motorways in Romania, Greece, Qatar and other nations.
The
new Andromeda barrier, presented on the occasion of a technical
seminar promoted in collaboration with the Province of Ancona, is
defined as the firstlight
smart safety barrier available
on the market and consists of transparent PET panels, inserted at a
minimum distance from the ground and framed by circular metal profile
poles for the benefit of safety for motorcyclists. It is
equipped with a system that detects
impacts and,
in the event of an accident, signals
the danger in real time to
vehicles arriving via intermittent lights, visible even many
kilometers away, also making it possible to detect the formation of
queues with obvious advantages for management traffic.
In
the device, aesthetically not very impactful thanks to the
transparent panels, a
system of LED lights is installed designed
to improve the visibility and safety of night driving or in case of
fog, so as to reduce the risk of accidents in the presence of adverse
weather conditions.
